Inventory

A map of where parts physically live. Locations form a tree (Lab, Cabinet A, Shelf 1); every node counts the distinct components beneath it, and every placement carries a scannable ID that keeps working after you rearrange the room. The tree below is the app's own.

Counts you can read from the doorway

Every node shows how many distinct components live anywhere beneath it, so the cabinet knows what its drawers hold. One glance at the collapsed tree tells you what is stored where, before you expand anything.

When the room changes shape, locations support bulk edits: adjust a whole set of nodes in one pass.

Placements

Placing a part creates something scannable

Pick a component, pick a location, and Sideband records a placement: its own entry with its own STG-prefixed ID, ready to print. An optional note carries the detail a database column never has a name for, like partial reel, ~600 left.

Relocation

Printed last month, still correct

A placement ID belongs to the stock itself. Relocate the parts and the ID travels with them, so the QR label you printed in May still resolves, now to the new drawer.

Reorganising the lab never invalidates a label. Print once, move things as often as the room demands.

Scanning

One scan, straight to the part

Point a camera at the label, or use a hardware scanner. Either way, scanning a placement ID jumps directly to that component at that location. No search box, no walking the tree.

Idempotent

Placing it again updates the record in place

Re-place the same part at the same location and nothing forks: the note updates, the placement ID stays the same, and so does every label already printed from it.

Label printing closes the loop with the QR itself · every placement also appears in the component editor's Locations tab.

Assign a part to a location, add a note if it needs one, and print the placement's QR.

Scan to find

Use the camera or a hardware scanner. A scan of the placement ID lands on that component, at that location.
